Installing Geode on iOS This page will help you install Geode on your iDevice . Unlike other platforms, installing Geode on iOS is not straightforward because of Apple's strict policy of not directly allowing apps outside of the App Store. <Callout title="Warning" variant="caution" icon="TriangleAlert" Geode only works from iOS 14 to the latest iOS version . TrollStore method also has an option to install a jailbreak tweak if you prefer to use Geode that way. Apple Developer Certificate method only requires a computer if you want to enable JIT. LiveContainer indirectly requires a computer as LiveContainer itself has to be sideloaded through SideStore </Callout Which Method is The Most Suitable For You? <Callout title="Note" type="note" icon="book" Methods that say "can go up to full support" mean the method provides partial mod support by default (JIT less) , but can be extended to full mod support (JIT) . Full mod support always requires a computer to set up . Don't worry, your favorite mods like CBF, Eclipse, Globed and more will work out of the box on partial mod support (JIT less) . Methods that support the latest iOS versions work on iOS 14 or above (iOS 14 being the minimum version for the Geode launcher). The exception is LiveContainer , which requires iOS 15 or above . </Callout Here's a comparison of all methods for you to see which method is the most suitable for you: TrollStore 🌟 If your device supports it, this is THE best option to install Geode 🌟 Pros Full mod support Easy to setup Works very reliably Cons Limited iOS version support (iOS 14 17.0, excluding 16.7.x+ and 17.0.x+) Might require a computer to set up (if on device options like using free certificates to install TrollStore do not work; iOS 17.0 requires a computer) SideStore 🚀 If you have a computer, don't want to pay for a certificate, and your device is on the latest iOS version, this is the best option to install Geode 🚀 Pros Can go up to full mod support Supports up to the latest version of iOS Works reliably Cons Has some limitation on the amount of apps you can install due to Apple's restrictions (3 active apps and 10 app ID) Requires a computer to set up Will expire in 7 days if you don't frequently refresh it Apple Developer Certificate 💲 If you can pay for a certificate and don't have a computer, this is the best option to install Geode 💲 Pros Can go up to full mod support Supports up to the latest version of iOS If you want to install apps other than Geode, this method does not have any app limits unlike SideStore Cons Apple developer certificates are paid Your certificate might get hit by Apple on a revoke wave, causing apps installed with it to crash Requires computer if you want full mod support (setting it up with partial mod support can be on device, no computer required) Free Certificates ❌ This is THE worst way to install Geode, and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary (such as not having a computer, not being able to pay for a certificate, or your device not supporting a great on device option like TrollStore) ❌ Pros Does not require a computer Supports up to the latest version of iOS Completely free to set up Cons Cannot go up to full mod support (JIT less only) Takes a lot of storage, atleast 400 MB (as it involves installing a patched version of Geometry Dash) Time consuming to set up and use (as it not only involves finding the right certificate to install Geode, but it also involves having to patch Geode everytime you install, update, enable or disable mods or update Geode itself) Works unreliably, can run into issues Geode might get revoked, causing it to crash when trying to open it Violates Apple's Terms of Service (as you're using a leaked certificate that was previously used by a company) LiveContainer 👍 If you have SideStore and don't want to waste an active app and app ID slot, this is the best way to install Geode 👍 Pros Can go up to full mod support Supports up to the latest version of iOS Completely free to set up Useful with SideStore, as it will let you preserve an active app and app ID slot Cons Requires a computer (as it's supposed to be used together with SideStore) Might require some extra setup

Installing Geode on iOS

Chapter 1: Custom Levels <Callout A lot of the code in the following tutorial comes from <Link href="https://github.com/OmgRod/GD Surge" GD Surge</Link by OmgRod (which parts of it come from other existing GD fangames like Lunar and Odyssey), so credit to the developers of these mods for writing this code! </Callout Prerequisites <Link href="https://geode sdk.org/mods/omgrod.rods fangame tools" Rod's Fangame Tools</Link (Geode mod) <Link href="https://docs.geode sdk.org/getting started/sdk" Geode SDK</Link A PC (mobile could work but it's really annoying) Permission to use certain songs (if applicable) A YouTube tutorial for this is coming very soon... 👀 Creating custom savefiles (CRITICAL) Before we even start messing with the GD main levels, we MUST create custom savefiles for the specific mod (to prevent getting leaderboard banned). To do this, we hook to ensure the savefile that is created/loaded has a slightly different name: How does GD get its main levels? GD gets its main level metadata from the <Link href="https://github.com/OmgRod/GD Surge/blob/master/src/modify/LevelTools.cpp L105 L229" </Link function and the actual level strings from the <Link href="https://github.com/OmgRod/GD Surge/blob/master/src/modify/LocalLevelManager.cpp L5 L14" </Link function. Okay, so now how do we replace the levels with our own ones? It's really simple! Geode allows you to <Link href="https://docs.geode sdk.org/tutorials/modify" hook</Link (modify) classes and functions. If we hook these two classes, we can change how vanilla GD gets its levels! But, before we do this, we need to find a way to get our levels in the game in the first place. Getting level strings Using <Link href="https://geode sdk.org/mods/omgrod.rods fangame tools" Rod's Fangame Tools</Link mod from Geode, we can extract any level string straight from the level editor. <Steps <Step Go to the mod's settings and ensure that the "Level Copy Type" setting is set to Encoded , and that the "Copy Level String" setting is enabled . </Step <Step Open your desired level. You should see a page that looks as shown below: <Image src="/assets/fangame/chap1 editor.png" alt="A page showing the level's info (with editor/play/share buttons in the middle) and an editable level name/description" / </Step <Step Click the button to the right of your screen. It should say "Copy Data". If a notification saying, "Encoded level copied to clipboard successfully!" appeared for you, this should've worked successfully! </Step </Steps Adding level data to resources Geode allows you to easily add resources (files along with your base mod) to your mod. To do so, add a new key to your as shown below: If you have another name for your resources folder, feel free to use that instead you are not limited to the path. Next, create a text file for each level inside your levels folder and paste the encoded level data into it. For example: The number in the file name corresponds directly to the level ID used in GD (e.g. Level 1). If negative level IDs are used (for custom or extended implementations), you can name files using the same pattern, such as . Registering the custom levels in GD Now that we have the custom level(s) in the mod's resources folder, we can start writing code to register the levels in GD. To do this, we will first hook to instead get the main level strings from our mod's resources: Although we have overwritten the level string, we must also limit the number of levels being displayed in the main levels page and display custom metadata for the levels. To do this, we will also hook : Adding custom artists (annoying but required) In your fangame, you will likely have completely different artists for your levels. With this, you will also need to find their socials (music video, Newgrounds, YouTube, and Facebook). But don't worry if you can't find any specific one, as you can just set the URL to empty ( ) and GD will not render that specific button. Adding the songs You may add the songs in your mod by updating the : Inside the music.zip should be every song in your mod (if you want to learn how to zip files, google it 😊). Now, you may be asking: "Why the HELL do we need to put a bunch of songs in a zip file??". And that's an excellent question! The reason why we do this is to save mod filesize since the Geode index has pretty small filesize limits (250Mb). Although 250Mb might not seem like a large amount, if you have enough songs and levels in your mod, you will easily exceed this limit. You can also try the online song download method but a full explanation for this in this tutorial would take a while to write. 😟 Unzipping the songs To unzip the songs, write the following code (straight from GD Surge): Making levels playable If you attempt to open a level in your mod's current state, it may say "Failed to load" when you open the level. To fix this, you need to hook again and ensure each time the game checks the level's integrity, it returns : Now, you should have a fully working custom level select screen (with fully custom levels) in GD. Adding a Lua Trigger To add a Lua Trigger to your level: <Steps <Step Open the Level Editor.</Step <Step Open the Triggers tab.</Step <Step Look for the trigger with the Lua logo and the name "Lua".</Step <Step Click it and place it anywhere in your level.</Step <Step Select the trigger and click "Edit Object" on the right side of the editor.</Step </Steps If everything was installed correctly, you should see the Lua Trigger editor appear. Congratulations! You have successfully set up Lua Trigger. In the next tutorials, we will go through how to write Lua scripts, use the built in functions, control objects, create animations, and make more advanced systems for your levels.
